My setup:
- I have a laptop with a quadro 2gb that i use for blender
- Then i have several mining rigs that i also render on, with 6-8x gtx1070 8gb cards.
- i run win10 pro on all machines
When i want to render i don't want to use my laptop to render, it's too slow anyways, so i turn off the camera/render for this machine. But as soon as gpu memory requirements go above 2gb it craps it's pants and i'm stuck at logging in with external desktop to do it manually with shared folders +++
Is it possible to not be limited my my laptop gpu memory amount with crowd render and still render on gpu?
PS: CR also does not give me the option to choose how many cards i want to use on a node, not a huge problem as i often use all of them, but it only shows me one in the menu, but it does use all cards, i guess i can manually adjust it in blender settings in each node manually.
Looks like the laptop is disabled while rendering, and i got no errors this time.. I rendered multiple frames with no error, last time i got an error at frame 2.. but then again i never got above about 1800mb vram used. Maybe i just had to open the file again with laptop disabled in the save file? I don't know..i will keep testing to see if i get an error at a later time. BTW: Thanks for a great addon! You guys rock! :)
@jenso Ok so now to answer your original query :)
First, you've mentioned that you turn off the laptop in the crowdrender panel by clicking the camera icon? This should totally disable the laptop from rendering, so it should not be running out of memory! I say should, however, if it is as you say, then the laptop is likely rendering and somehow ignoring your settings. You can check if the laptop is trying to render by checking your process monitor, the laptop should have three blender processes running when its at idle ( we use two additional blender processes to help with managing the distribution of rendering). When its rendering there will be a fourth process which is rendering on your laptop. If you find you have this fourth process, then its rendering and we have a bug to fix :(
Second, The addon definitely does have a bug in detecting how many cards you have. If they all have the same name in blender, then crowdrender just shows one. We know about this, there is a fix coming for it.
So, if you can determine if your laptop is ignoring the camera setting on our panel, this will help us to help you :)
Hi there, ok, totally happy to help, but first, can you change your username on this forum? Posting as "Crowdrender" is reserved for the devs. If you can change your username to something unique that represents you and repost this that would be most appreciated. We're eager to help you solve the issue :)
