Hi there Jeremy, you said it crashes, do you see any errors in the terminal you started Blender from? Pretty hard to help unless we can either get the same problem to happen (we're running ubuntu on servers and a PC with no issues here), or if you can supply logs/output from terminal that tells us where in the code the crash/errors are coming from :)
