Connecting my homelaptop to desktop at work!
I have blender 2.8 (version from may 8th 2019) and crowd render 0.17 !
First of all I was confused which ip to use, when following your doc file I find an IPv4 adress but when looking my IP up on https://www.myip.com/ I find another one. I think I need the IPv4 one, is that correct?
My laptop connects but my desktop not, one thing that's keep on happening is that when I insert the desktop's IP and then check it, it has changed in an unknow IP adress, what's happening?
Thanks!
Freddy Peters
Thanks but it's too complicated for me and too risky I think. Hopefully it will be easier in a new update? Thanks! Will this happen and so yes when do you think it will be just as easy as in 1 network now?
Freddy
Ahhh, apologies, after reading your comments and the original post you wrote, I think I get what you are trying to do.
Ok, so as I understand it you have computers on two separate networks that you'd like to connect to? This is a somewhat advanced use of our software as it requires you to either setup a VPN to connect the two networks together using a separate software package, or you can connect to just one computer that you forward internet traffic to via configuring the router that the remote computer connects to.
If you've not used VPN software before or configured your router to forward traffic, I'd recommend that you revise how these solutions work before attempting them with Crowdrender. You need to understand the security issues, particularly with port forwarding, and also the cost of your time involved in setting this all up.
Once you've learned a bit about the above, feel free to reply back and I can post how to do the port forwarding and VPN methods :)
On youtube you mention VPN or port forwarding, please explain. Thanks!!
What IP do I need for connecting to a remote desktop? (via the internet)
Thanks!
Hi Freddy, first, you should not use the ip address from myip.com, This is a public address that your modem has on the internet. You can't use it to connect to any computers on your local network. Can you provide a video of what is happening when the ip is changing? We need to see this happening to be able to have a chance at knowing what the problem might be.
