I am finding my home wi-fi using two pcs on crowd-render is proving a little unstable and a relatively simple 40 frame animation failing 100% of the time. The failure is on the host pc. Individually, each PC renders the animation without any problems.
I am wondering if it could be my 'home network' and therefore if I were to 'hard-wire' the two pcs using a bridging usb connection would solve the problem. SO the question is, can I sue crowd-render with two usb bridged pcs.
Thanks
Richard C
Hmmm, ok, wifi networks are generally a bit more unreliable, they suffer a lot from interference, however, the networking part of your operating system (which programs like our use) usually can take care of that unreliability and make sure messages eventually get through.
That said sometimes a message may not make it. Its this problem that can cause the program to stop rendering.
As for the USB bridge, we've never tested using such a method. So I am unsure about how that might work. If it appears to the operating system as a network interface then it should work, we use network interfaces to allow computers to connect and share data and work on rendering together.
The best solution, however, is an ethernet switch/router. They do not suffer interference, they typically have higher throughput because, even though some wifi routers boast hundreds of Mb/s, other nearby wifi access points or radio interference can limit the bandwidth quite severely.
If you have further trouble after establishing a wired connection, please come back, we'd always like to help and investigate further to improve the software and help you get a working solution.
