Hello,
iam interested, if it in future maybe possible to mix the rendermodes. For example: a machine with a good gpu render on gpu, the other render with cpu? I don´t know a lot about the technique behind the renderengines, so i thought i ask about it.
Hi Gopper, you are correct in that there is a tiling issue. We need to build into the addon a method to deal with this elegantly. We're working towards it. For now, you may have to experiment with values between 64 and 256 to see if you can get a setting that minimises total render time.
We will provide a way to (easily) customise tile sizing for CPU and GPU soon.
ok i will try this. But one another question. How can i solve the tilingproblem? When i render with gpu i normally set the tiling/buckets to 256x256 or greater. When i render with cpu i set it to 64x64. But how can i tell the cpu clients to render with smaller buckets and the gpu clients to render with greater? is it not inefficient to render with cpu on great buckets?
Hi Gopper, I've tested this with the current version of pre-release which I think you have? You just need to save your user preferences for the compute device as GPU on the GPU machines and then for CPU on the CPU machines. Then when you start crowdrender and connect the render process will follow the user preferences for selecting the compute device.
There is one thing to watch out for though, in the render settings panel, you also have to set the device there too. This might be confusing at first but set this to GPU, save the file and then do a resync. This will update the blend files on all machines to use GPU. But, because you have configured the user preferences for the CPU machines to use CPU, they will ignore the setting in the render settings panel and use their CPU.
Please try this if you can, and let me know if it works?
Thanks!
James
