I'm trying to use this add-on for the first time and I cannot for the life of me work out how to render something on another machine. I have no idea if I'm doing the nodes correctly as the documentation is vague about what hostname is supposed to go in the node. SO my questions are:
Do I need to add the hostname of the computer blender is running on or the computer that blender is trying to connect to?
Do I need to add a node to both machines? (Master and slave)
Do I add the slaves hostname to the master and the masters hostname to the slave?
Basically I wan't to offload the rendering task to a more powerful machine and I can't seem to figure out what's going on, any help would be great.
Hi @David Littlefair Totally understand, this is a little complex and can be confusing first time you do it.
To connect to another computer, make sure blender is running with CR also enabled and started on that 'other' computer.
On your client/main/master computer where you will be connecting from, open blender and enable CR.
Then type in the hostname of the 'other' computer as a new node on your client/main/master computer.
Click the connect button and hopefully you will see the ip address appear in a confirmation window. If the ip doesn't appear, you can manually enter it now into that confirmation window.
Click OK to connect.
If the connect is successful you should see the status of the node change to eventually say "synced" or "sync_fail" (which can be fixed by pressing resync and/or re-opening the file in blender.
Once synced, you can render a still or animation using the buttons available in our panel.
